CAP Job Club a great success!

Helston Methodist Church has been host to the Christians Against Poverty job club for the past few weeks, and it was a great success for those who took part.

CAP Job Club is another part of the CAP Ministry. You may have heard of CAP Money which is there to help people look at their use of money. The job club looks at the whole area of work, and how you look for a job.

The Job Club is funded by Emmanuel Baptist church in Falmouth, and other local charitable trust donations. Glyn Lumley, the Job Club Manager from Emmanuel, runs the 6 week course at Central once or twice a year.

They have just finished the third course in Helston, where there were 7 delegates. 2 of them have found employment, and another 2 are awaiting the outcome of interviews.

The main aim of the sessions is to help people think about what skills they have, what they enjoy doing, and help them identify what would give them job satisfaction. There is a real focus on looking at your CV as a 'Shop Window' and tailoring it to the job you are applying for, as well as interview techniques. There is also the opportunity to have a one to one coaching session from Karen, the CAP trained Job Coach.

They seek to create a caring atmosphere and to support people in their job search. They explain that they are Christians and the course has come out of putting Faith in action. Their aim is to encourage and support delegates, as they are called, to believe in themselves. A free lunch is provided which encourages the group to support each other.
